Super Bowl
Experiences

As a Communication graduate, I am fond of hosting and I love public speaking. There’s an unexplainable feeling between holding the mic and simply speaking in the podium while saying what I need to say. I will tell you a story back in College that molded me into who I am now.
During my first year after our group presentation, my professor pointed at me and criticized the way I spoke, saying I should speak more adequately for my age. I was hurt. It felt degrading to me and it took me sometime to get over it.
Fast forward to third and fourth year in my communication class, my Professor told us that whoever will be the best presenter will earn an “immunity” and would not have to attend the class for a certain period. It was an individual presentation, and after I finished, my Professor was in awe. She said to me in front of the class, verbatim, “You can host the Super Bowl half time”. I was caught off guard because it was an unexpected compliment. In short, I got that immunity.
Super Bowl? Me? Hosting it? Greatest compliment I won’t ever forget.
Little did I know that the words spoken to me back then would help me grow and be a better version of myself.
My last few years in college was meaningful too. I was able to host the Lasallian Cup Echoes V— where we have big bands and well-known Filipino singers as guest, opening and closing ceremony of our Universities’ foundation week, and the Christmas lighting during December.
Whenever I do it, it brings out a version of me that I am proud of. I auditioned for those, by the way. I remember auditioning with a video camera in front of me. I was a bit nervous back then, but I want to do it, so I tried and got the position.
Now at work, I do PA checks and PA for the flight (sometimes). Right after I do the PA, my colleagues were going to tell me that my voice is very clear and bold. It flatters me.
Having these experiences makes me realize that somehow I made a right choice choosing my course in College. But you know what, my mom wants me to become a Dentist. She insisted and tried to convince me but I told her that I want to pursue communication. Sorry mom! I know you are still proud of what I’ve become.
Still, I am working in an Aviation industry and I am happy with it. Thank God that Communication is a very diverse course, so here I am working as a cabin crew.
Working here brought me to places that I once dreamed of, and here I am now, visited most of the destinations that my Company operates, whether it be in Asia, Africa, North and South America, Europe and Australia, name it, I’ve probably been there. And I will be forever thankful for this experience.
I miss public speaking too though, but who knows on what’s next to come. Only God knows. So, all I want to tell you is believe that you can have everything that you once dreamed of. And most importantly… always follow your dreams!
